Archaeological Evaluation (2 December 2015 - 4 December 2015)
NS 65277 73987 An evaluation was carried out, 2–4 December 2015, in advance of a proposed extension to the town hall. The work was required as the western extent of the site lies within the defined boundary of the
Antonine Wall, and c75m to the E of one of the Antonine Wall’s forts, which also contains the earthworks of the medieval Kirkintilloch Castle. Four machine excavated trenches (c45m2 equivalent to 13% of the development
area) were excavated across the existing car park. Natural clay was encountered below layers of overburden. No finds or features attributable to the Roman period were uncovered.

Watching Brief (26 April 2016 - 19 May 2016)
NS 65277 73987 A watching brief was carried out, 26 April – 19 May 2016, during ground-breaking works associated with refurbishment of the property and the construction of a new extension on the W side of the building. Below the tarmac, which formed areas of hard standing to the W of the building, infill layers of blaes, brick and sandstone fragments were
found overlying natural clay. No archaeological features were found but a sherd of possible Roman samian ware ceramic, a possible Roman iron nail and two further unidentified fragments of iron were recovered from unstratified material.
