NS 65277 73987 A watching brief was carried out, 26 April – 19 May 2016, during ground-breaking works associated with refurbishment of the property and the construction of a new extension on the W side of the building. Below the tarmac, which formed areas of hard standing to the W of the building, infill layers of blaes, brick and sandstone fragments were

found overlying natural clay. No archaeological features were found but a sherd of possible Roman samian ware ceramic, a possible Roman iron nail and two further unidentified fragments of iron were recovered from unstratified material.
