Eilean na h-Eaglaise, Church Island, bears no trace of a church or chapel nor is there any knowledge of one having existed there (ONB 1871).
Assuming the name of the island to have the obvious significance, the existence of a comparatively modern church is ruled out by the lack of knowledge of it in 1871.
A medieval church would be indicated by a rectangular, oriented, stone foundation. Nothing fulfilling these requirements has been observed although there is a long rectangular foundation (probably of a long-house) lying ENE-WSW, with an attached enclosure, at NM 7654 1383, and at NM 7644 1387 there is what appears to be a small rectangular foundation lying WNW-ESE.
If, as appears likely from the situation, the island were the site of an early church, various enclosures revealed by RAF air photographs 106G.Scot.UK 49:3232-3 (flown 1946) might have some significance, especially one at NM 7648 1391 which might have been a cashel.

Nothing was seen on Eilean na h-Eaglaise to suggest the site of a church or a cashel. The buildings etc visible on the island appear to be of recent origin.
