A barrage balloon mooring site has been identified from a wartime RAF oblique air photograph (No.1 CAM oblique, AF623, flown 7 May 1942), situated between Collina Street and the series of locks on the Forth & Clyde canal. It is not known whether the site has been removed during the post-war period.
Information from RCAHMS (DE), February 2002
Field Visit (18 April 2017)
Nothing is now visible of a World War Two Barrage Balloon anchoring site, which is shown on an RAF photograph (No. 1 CAM oblique, AF623) taken on 7 May 1942. The area has been landscaped and rough grassland occupies the slope leading down to the canal. The site was one of an extensive network that protected the population and industry of central Glasgow and the Clyde from low flying enemy bombers.
Visited by HES, Survey and Recording (ATW, AKK) 18 April 2017.
Note (20 July 2017)
After examination of the RAF oblique aerial photograph (CAM/019 AF623, flown 7 May 1942) the national grid reference was changed from NS 5649 6895 to NS 56462 68974.
