A barrage balloon mooring site has been identifed from an RAF WW II oblique air photograph (No.1 CAM oblique, G288, flown 11 July 1940) in an area at the S end of Edzell Street, near the bank of the River Clyde at Whiteinch. The site has since been destroyed by the construction of Jordanvale Avenue.

Activities

Field Visit (19 April 2017)

Nothing is now visible in an area occupied by the Clydesdale Industrial Estate of a World War Two Barrage Balloon anchoring site, which is shown on an RAF photograph (No. 1 CAM oblique, G288) taken on 11 July 1940. The site was one of an extensive network that protected the population and industry of central Glasgow and the Clyde from low flying enemy bombers.

Visited by HES, Survey and Recording (ATW, AKK) 19 April 2017.

Note (20 July 2017)

After examination of the RAF oblique aerial photograph (CAM/005 G00288, flown 11 July 1940) the national grid reference was changed from NS 5649 6895 to NS 53810 66720.
