A small brick and concrete built chimney stack and two hut bases have been recorded in a field to the E of the Carman Road about 250m E of Bloomhill. The brick built stack is about 4 feet high with a concrete lintel probably formed one end of a large hut. The site has been reported as a searchlight battery.
Information from Defence of Britain Project recording form, North Clyde DoB Group, Trefoil Guild, 1997
Note (17 October 2018)
The concrete foundations of the huts and the remains of what may be a water tower (rather than a chimney) associated with this World War Two searchlight emplacement, which is noted in a document held by The National Archives at Kew (WO 166/7369), are situated on the E side of a field of improved pasture immediately S of a triangular spinney. It was one of about 150 searchlight batteries that were constructed to protect the industries in the centre of Glasgow and along the banks of the River Clyde from aerial attack by the Luftwaffe during WWII.
Information from HES, Survey and Recording (ATW, AKK) 17 October 2018.
