Hilton of Turnerhall, c.1800. A remarkably tall, narrow farmhouse in coursed granite on three floors and with three
windows set on a ridge. Sashes original; tall, single-storey back wing; adjacent to Hilton Windmill, (?)1787 or 1825. Lower part octagonal, 30ft high, top 20ft circular and tapering. Rubble-built in pinkish granite and with dressed quoins and a slab walkway reefing-stage carried on granite corbel-spurs at the angles. Originally four floors to spiral stair.
The barn is two storeys high, the lower storey being below the level of the base of the tower.
The sails were blown off on 28 December 1879 in the same storm which did for the Tay Bridge; this led to the capping of the windmill and the installation of a three-horse gin in front of the tower to power the adjacent threshing barn. (This
itself was replaced by a stationary engine in the base of the tower which caused a fire which destroyed the original timber-work and fittings of the windmill.)

(Location cited as NJ 942 342). Windmill, Hilton, early 19th century. A most interesting structure, with an octagonal base terminating in a narrow bracketted walk-way and extended upwards in circular cross-section. There is now a conical roof. Appears to have powered a threshing mill.
