(Location cited as NJ 714 503). Bridge and tollhouse, Turriff, built 1826. A handsome 3-span bridge with dressed-stone arch rings and coursed-rubble spandrels and wing walls. The arches are segmental, the centre one being slightly longer than the other two, and there are rounded cutwaters.

This bridge carries the B9025 public road over the River Deveron to the NW of Turriff (NJ74NW 40). The river here forms the boundary between the parishes of Turriff (to the NE) and Forglen (to the SW).

The location assigned to this record indicates the apparent midpoint of the structure. The available map evidence indicates that it extends from NJ c. 71422 50363 to NJ c. 71390 50307.

Eastside Bridge and Toll House, Turriff

A triple-span masonry arch bridge over the Deveron with spans of 40 ft, 59 ft and 40 ft built by William Smith in 1826 to a design by William Minto. The bridge exhibits several design details gathered by Minto whilst acting as

the contractor on Telford’s Potarch, Alford and Keig bridges. The roadway is 18 ft wide between parapets. The tollhouse was designed by William Robertson.
