Archaeology Notes

HY22SE 26 2692 2062

(HY 2692 2062) Tumulus (NR)

OS 6" map, Orkney, 2nd ed., (1903).

A turf-covered mound of light-coloured earth mixed with fairly large stones. It measures about 49 ft by 33ft, the main axis lying almost due east and west, and rises to a height of 5ft 3 ins. A hollow on the north side indicates that a large portion of it has been removed.

RCAHMS 1946.

A turf-covered mound of earth and stones, 1.0m high, truncated by quarrying and mutilated by the addition, on the top, of a WD gun post. It is too indefinite to classify, but its conspicuous position on a broad-backed low eminence suggests a barrow.

Resurveyed at 1/2500.

Visited by OS (NKB), 21 May 1967.
