Field Visit (17 September 1968)
NJ51SE 12 5800 1067.
At NJ 5800 1067, on a level shelf, is a probable cairn consisting of a circular rim of earth and stones, c.12.0 metres diameter c.0.4 metres high, virtually destroyed in the SE, but with a fairly level, stony, interior. Two earthfast stones set on edge on the W arc may be the remains of a kerb.
Surveyed at 1/2500.
Visited by OS (RL) 17 September 1968.
Field Visit (6 September 1994)
This cairn is situated at the W end of a broad ridge about 50m SW of Howemill stone circle (NJ51SE 3), in a position which affords an open outlook except towards the NE where the ground rises towards the stone circle. The cairn stands at the edge of an immature forestry plantation; although plough furrows cut through it, the trees stop just short of its NW edge. It measures 12m in diameter and up to 0.7m in height, with the remains of a kerb of edge-set stones on the N and NW. As well as that caused by forestry ploughing, there has been some disturbance of the interior, which has created a hollow towards the NE edge.
