This bridge, carrying a minor road over the canal, is clearly marked on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Lanarkshire 1864, sheet vii) and on the 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Lanarkshire 1899, sheet viiNW).

In the North Lanarkshire Archives, Cumbernauld (Monklands Photographic Collection) are photographs (U6 1144, 1963 and U6 1836, c.1965) showing details of this bridge carrying the Garthamlock Road over the canal. It is revealed as a simple iron work bridge, with railings in a grid-iron pattern, possessing stone abutments.
