Scope and Content Queenslie Bridge over the Monkland Canal, Garthamlock Road, Glasgow (Glasgow City council area) This was a standard Monkland Canal bridge, with a timber deck on masonry abutments, but widened on the east side on concrete abutments. The engineer of this section of the canal was James Watt, of steam engine fame. This view shows the bridge from the west, with the original bridge in front of the widening, the north concrete abutment of which can be seen through the span. The wooden beams of this bridge were replaced by pre-cast concrete beams in about 1968, but shortly after this section of the canal was piped, and its bed used as part of the route of the M8 motorway, and the bridge demolished.
