Activities

Field Visit (3 April 1996)

NY48NE 164 4615 8638

A rectangular building lies along the ESE side of an enclosure situated on a terrace to the W of Kirk Hill. The building (LID96 383) measures 11.8m from NNE to SSW by 3.7m transversely within turf footings spread to 1m in thickness and 0.3m in height. The interior is obscured by rushes but may have been subdivided into two compartments and there is an entrance in the WNW side. The interior of the enclosure is largely covered by lazy-beds about 2m across, which are particularly well-defined on the W. A small rectangular enclosure lies against the SW side of the enclosure, and appears to have been cut by it. A crag to the SE of the building has been extensively quarried and there are four discrete quarry scoops to the E of the building.

Approximately 70m to the S there are the turf footings of a second building (LID96 384, NY 4618 8630), measuring 7m from E to W by 2.6m internally.
