Accessing Scotland's Past Project

Nineteenth-century accounts state that a coffin or a stone cist was found in 1862 during the excavation of a small mound. The site lay close to the western banks of the River Avon, about 600m south-east from Craigroy steading.

Probably dating from the Early Bronze Age, the cist contained ashes and calcined bones, the remains of a cremation. Three stones were left to mark the position of the cist.
