Standing Building Recording (4 May 2016 - 10 June 2016)

The Anderson College is a purpose-built medical teaching building designed by James Sellars and completed by John Keppie shortly after 1887. Considerable extensions were added in 1936-7 and 1954-5. Its interior was rebuilt in 1990 and major refurbishment carried out from 2007 onwards. This is a Category B Listed building built in Early Italian Renaissance style with original 4-and 5-bay L-shaped plan with ranges with a later block situated to the northwest. The elevations were faced with squared snecked rubble sandstone with ashlar dressings. Notable sculpted panels are present on the north, east and south-facing elevations by sculptor James Pittendreigh MacGillivray (Shots 104). The interior of the building contains teaching rooms, a library and anatomy and surgery museums. The interior of the building was not seen.
