Pit (dis) [NAT]

OS 1:10,000 map, 1992.

This small disused quarry is situated at a height of about 375m OD on the E flank of Kirkney Hill; it now lies within a Forestry Commission conifer plantation, but both the pit and its spoil-tip downslope to the E, are largely free of any tree-cover.

The quarry is depicted on both the 1st and 2nd editions of the OS 6-inch map (Aberdeenshire and Banffshire, 1874, sheet xxxiv and 1902, sheet xxxiv.SW).

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS), 23 June 1999.
