Archaeology Notes

NH64NE 32 c. 65 45

A flat bronze axe some 6ins long 'found in the neighbourhood of Inverness' according to the card accompanying the exhibit, is in Inverness Museum; no accession number.

Visited by OS 31 March 1960.

Coles, listing a type Ba axe from Fairfield Road, Inverness, in Inverness Museum, is presumably referring to the same axe. (Fairfield Road runs from NH 6526 4553 to NH 6618 4524).

J M Coles 1971.

(Flat axe of Migdale type). Slightly corroded, black-brown, butt broken; length remaining 122mm, butt (?), cutting edge 91mm, weight 340 gms. Inverness Museum (00.80).

P K Schmidt and C B Burgess 1981.
