There is a crannog on Loch Kernsary.

(J H Dixon 1886).

At NG 8816 8024, 10.0m from the S shore of Loch Kernsary, there is a flat-topped, heather-covered crannog, planted with coniferous trees, measuring 30.0m N-S by 23.0m E-W. It is built of loose rubble stones piled 1.7m high against natural rocks to be seen above the water-level in the NW of the crannog. A deep channel divides it from the mainland and no causeway is visible.

About 20.0m SW of the crannog on a shelf in open moorland, approx. 50ft. OD. are the bracken-covered remains of a boat-shaped dry-stone building measuring 10.0m x 5.0m internally. The walls are 1.2m thick and 0.7m average height the faces being defined by large unhewn kerbstones. The entrance is in the rounded "bows" facing the crannog in the NE, and is formed by two rough orthostats, 0.8m high and approx 0.3m square. The building appears more roughly constructed and of greater age than the normal depopulated farmhouse, and is probably contemporary with the crannog.
