Hut Circle.

Within a few feet of the south side of the road from Uig to Staffin, about 1 ¾ miles north by east of the former place as the crow flies, at an elevation of 500 feet above sea-level, on a grassy slope, is a hut circle measuring 17 feet in diameter, surrounded by a bank 6 feet broad and 1 foot in height.

(NG 4050 6608) Hut Circle (NR)

OS 6"map, (1965)

At NG 4050 6608 levelled into a SE-facing slope is a circular stone-walled hut measuring 7.0m in diameter between the centres of a wall spread all round to c.30.m. The entrance is not evident but may have been in the NE at the change of slope. The surrounding area shows signs of lazy beds which may have caused a break in the SE of the hut wall but no clearance heaps or signs of contemporary cultivation are apparent.

Visited by OS (I S S) 20 September 1971.

(RCAHMS 1928, visited 1914)
