Archaeology Notes ( - 1961)

NG35NE 7 3949 5668.

(NG 3949 5668) On moorland about 7/8 mile N of Kingsburgh and some 700 yards ESE of a broch (NG35NE 10), over-looking the S bank of the River Hinnisdal, at a height of about 150ft OD, is a circle of stones and small slabs set on edge, measuring about 15ft in diameter internally. It is more likely a denuded cairn (Similar to NG45SW 16) than a hut circle.

(RCAHMS 1928).

This is almost certainly a ruined cairn, the kerb only of which survives.

Visited by OS (A C) 4 August 1961.

Activities

Field Visit (8 September 1915)

Cairn (denuded) or Hut Circle, Kingsburgh.

On moorland about 7/8 mile north of Kingsburgh, and some 700 yards east-south-east of the broch (NG35NE 10), overlooking the south bank of the River Hinnisdal, at an elevation of about 150 feet above sea-level, is a circular setting of stones and small slabs set on edge, measuring about 15 feet in diameter internally. It is more likely a denuded cairn of the variety seen some 4 miles to the south-east (NG45SW 16) than a hut circle.

RCAHMS 1928, visited 8 September 1915.

OS map: Skye xi (unnoted).
