Forres Station [NAT]

OS 1:10,000 map, 1984.

NMRS NOTES:

Station opened 03.08.1863 with completion of Inverness and Perth Junction Railway and to replace original Inverness and Aberdeen Junction Railway Station of 25.03.1858.

(Undated) information in NMRS.

This intermediate station on the Inverness - Keith (Highland Rly) portion of the Inverness - Aberdeen line was also the junction for that company's original main line over Dava summit to Perth via Boat of Garten and Aviemore. It was opened in its original form, which need not have been on the same site, by the Inverness and Aberdeen Junction Rly on 25 March 1858. The present station was opened on 3 August 1863 at the opening of the Dava line; this line is now closed but the station remains in regular use by passenger traffic on the Inverness - Aberdeen line.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 18 March 1999.
