Scope and Content Forres Station, Forres, Moray This railway station was opened in 1858 by the Inverness & Aberdeen Junction Railway, and was rebuilt by The Highland Railway, probably in about 1890. In 1865 it became a junction for the Inverness & Perth Junction Railway. This shows the Aberdeen line platforms from the west, with a special Highland Railway centenary train at the Inverness-bound platform. The platforms for the Perth line are out of sight to the right. The locomotive was built for The Highland Railway in 1894. The line to Perth was closed in the 1960s and has been dismantled. Forres Station was subsequently rebuilt on a much-reduced scale, but retains part of the Inverness platform awning, with its cast-iron columns and brackets to serve what is now the only platform.
