Accessing Scotland's Past Project

Delnadamph Lodge was built in 1860, at Torran Deallaig, on the south bank of the River Don.

This twelve-bedroom lodge lay on the Balmoral estate, and at 430m OD, was the highest shooting-lodge in Scotland. In 1987, the building was deemed as being beyond repair, and was demolished in 1988.

'Delnadamph Lodge. A very neat and newly erected shooting lodge, with office houses and garden...'

Name Book 1867.

This 12-bedroomed house was built about 1860 as one of the highest (430m OD) shooting lodges in Scotland and falls on the Balmoral estate. It is structurally unsound and beyond repair, but the exterior remains complete and demolition was averted in 1987 (for which, see Press and Journal for 28 March 1987).
