Archaeology Notes

NS17SE 7 193 704

This post-war anti-aircraft battery has been demolished and a new housing estate built on the site.

Information from J Guy September 1996

One of five heavy 5.25-inch anti-aircraft batteries built around Glasgow. Built between 1951-2, the battery was a fully automated radar controlled unit with four emplacements. Records show that the guns were disposed of for scrap in July 1956 to McConnels of Coatbridge.

Information from Mr J A Guy, May 1999

Recorded as part of Mr Guy survey, on the date of visit nothing of this site could be found. The post-war 5.25-inch gun-emplacements were built on the site of an earlier World War II heavy anti-aircraft battery.

J Guy 2001; NMRS MS 810/11, Part 1, 56-7.
