Archaeology Notes

NG20NW 18 2165 0577

NG 2169 0578. An off-square enclosure about 13.0m by 12.0m within a ruinous wall, immediately N of an upstanding modern enclosure. Within are several oval beach stones on end reminiscent of grave markers. No local tradition of a burial ground here.

Visited by OS, 27 May 1972.

(Location amended to NG 2165 0577). This subrectangular burial-ground is situated on the E side of a burn below the steep cliffs at Conagearaidh. It measures 13.5m from NNW to SSE by 11.3m transversely within a low grass-grown wall, and encloses at least five burial-plots defined by subrectangular settings of stones. The stones used are all rounded beach pebbles, the northenmost plot measuring 2.9m by 1.8m. The positions of two graves are marked by upright stone slabs.

(Canna 781).

Visited by RCAHMS (IF, ARG), 7 April 1995.
