Scotland from the sky

14/05/2018

Historic Environment Scotland (HES) has been working with the BBC on the production of a landmark 3-part documentary series, ‘Scotland from the Sky’, which will broadcast its first episode on Wednesday 16 May at 9pm on BBC1 Scotland. The series draws extensively on the vast aerial photography collections held by HES – which date from the early years of the twentieth century up to the present day – using them as a way of telling a new history of Scotland through the perspective of the view from above.

To accompany the series, HES have published a brand new book of the same name, written by series presenter and HES Publishing Manager James Crawford. The gallery below presents stunning modern and historical imagery from the television series and book - but it is just a fraction of what is available through Canmore, our online catalogue to the HES archives. Use this selection as a starting point to explore deeper and deeper into our unique collections.
