Scope and Content Luftwaffe aerial photograph of the Blackwater Reservoir and Dam, Highland Situated at the north-western end of Loch Leven, both the reservoir and the hydro-electric dam are clearly outlined in this aerial photograph, while the attached intelligence notes describe the dam's construction, complete with a cross-section diagram (bottom right). The notes also identify the control building (2). Built in 1908, the dam was designed to provide power for the aluminium smelting works at Kinlochleven and a nearby burial-ground contains several memorials to those workers killed during the dam's construction. Taken during aerial reconnaissance by the Luftwaffe in September 1940, this photograph shows the Blackwater reservoir and dam on Loch Leven. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
