Comprehensive landscape survey and analysis was undertaken between January and December 2005 of the surviving core of the Pitmedden Estate, extending to selected areas sold to surrounding farms by the NTS in the 1950s. The principal discovery was that the well-known formal walled garden of c 1675 at the core of the historic estate did not exist in isolation.

Broad ground floor windows on either side of a central entrance. Both ground floor windows appear to have been widened (the dormers may also be later remodellings); the central entrance appears to be as original. Narrow ground floor windows to the S end of each gable; blind windows on the N side of each gable. There is a small slate-roofed out-shot at the W end of the N wall.
