At Barncluith there are three dwelling-houses and three gardens. They were probably constructed about 1583. All the summer houses in the gardens are as old as the dwelling.

Name Book 1858; New Statistical Account (NSA) 1845

The Dutch gardens at Barncluith are said to have been laid out in or about 1583 but the terraces were constructed later. There are two garden-houses, one at one end of each of the lower pair of terraces.

Country Life 1902

At Barncluith the terraced gardens with a garden-house at each end, appear to have been modernised. The buildings, including Barncluith itself, are not of any notable archaeological interest, and have been considerably restored.

Visited by OS (JLD) 4 September 1953.
