Blackhall Junction [NAT]
OS 1:10,000 map, 1985.
There are no visible remains of Blackhall Junction, 900m ESE of Kepplehill farmsteading. The indicated location was later occupied by a coal mine (OS 1:10,000 map, 1985), and now lies on the perimeter of the open-cast mine NS85NE 48.
The junction is depicted on the 1st and 2nd editions of the OS 6-inch map (Lanarkshire, 1864, sheet xiii; 1899, sheet xiii.SE) but had been removed before 1910 (1921 revision, sheet xiii). No trace was found of the signal box that is depicted on the 2nd edition and 1921 revision.
Blackhall junction formed the junction of the Shotts branch with the Wilsontown, Morningside and Coltness Railway; both formed part of the North British Railway system.
