This shale-oil mine is situated to the S of the disused branch railway line to Tarbrax and comprises a crow's foot bing (centred NT 0165 5645) and the footings of three brick-built buildings. Two of the buildings (NT 0160 5655, 0165 5653) are rectangular, and while the shape of the third structure (NT 0172 5645) is obscured by rubble, it incorporates possible water channels and may have been a washer. The mine is depicted as in use on the revised edition of the OS 6-inch map (Lanarkshire 1910, sheet xiv).

Nothing now remains visible of an 'Old Quarry' (NT 0150 5644, CSW 4687) and an 'Old Level' (NT 0129 5629, CSW 4685) which are depicted on the 2nd edition map (Lanarkshire 1899, sheet xiv) to the SW of the mine.

(CSW 4685, 4687, 4688).
