(NY 368 915) A circular enclosure, measuring some 193ft in diameter (and noted on Jobey's map as a 'defended settlement') is situated about 100 yds S of fort NY39SE 1. It has been surrounded by an earth and stone bank, now with a maximum height of 3ft 6ins. The interior has been considerably hollowed and is divided in two by a stony bank. A circular platform, apparently the site of a hut, lies against the rampart on the S. An entrance, 2ft wide, is adjacent to the hut, while the 5ft to 6ft wide entrance to the N part is by the side of the dividing wall.

RCAHMS 1920, visited 1912; G Jobey 1971.

NY 3688 9155. The spread and fragmentary remains of this settlement occupy a gentle S-facing slope at 215m OD. The undulating and partially boggy interior, 60m N-S by 55m E-W, has two obvious hut stances, one against the best preserved S part of the enclosure bank, and a 9.0m wide scooped area against the E bank. The stony bank E-W dividing bank is probably a later feature and appears to overlie the enclosure at both ends. The 4.0m entrance on the W side shows two exposed orthostats against its N side. The alleged entrance in the S is probably a late mutilation.

Surveyed at 1/10,000.

Visited by OS (JRL), 16 September 1979.
