The old Roman Burying Place is an enclosure with old beech trees where stone coffins were found about a century ago. It is preserved from tillage.

OS Name Book 1848

This burial-ground is a small wooded enclosure centred on NX 7480 6450. No evidence was seen to suggest it was a burial ground, and no information was encountered to suggest it was a Roman burial-ground or a Roman Catholic burial ground (but see NX76SW 11 - Mound).

Visited by OS (WDJ) 18 February 1963.

Although previously classified as 'Burial Ground (possible)', this is simply a site at which several possible cists were found in the 19th century. No link with any church or chapel can be demonstrated, nor does there seem any likelihood that the site is of Roman origin. The enclosure referred to in earlier accounts appears to be no more than a juxtaposition of field-boundaries and the embanked edge of a track, which encloses a long natural mound. The cists were probably found in a small quarry at the N end of the mound (NX76SW 11).
