(NY 0642 9751) Ancient Earthwork (NAT)

OS 6" map, (1920)

Horseshoe-shaped stony rampart 4 - 5' high on inner side with much-ploughed outer ditch, forming the N end of an oval or circular enclosure. Chord between ends of rampart, 83'; bisectional diameter, 72'.

RCAHMS 1920

The remains of this enclosure, set slightly into the slope and on a slight shelf overlooking a steep scarp to the E, are generally as described. It measures c. 52.0m N-S by 25.0m transversely and although there are no internal features, the non-defensive situation suggests it is probably the remains of a small settlement. Resurveyed at 1:2500. Visited by OS (R D) 24 March 1972

No change to previous field report.

Surveyed at 1:10,000.

Sketch plan & section.

Visited by OS (J R L) 8 September 1978.
