(NY 0938 9896) Mote (NR).

OS 6" map, (1957)

An irregularly circular hillock some 400 yards N by W of Newfarm is said to have borne the name 'Mote Knowe' for generations, but there is no evidence of artificial shaping or construction. There is an irregular trench-like hollow on the W side, but it is not believed to be the remains of a defensive work.

RCAHMS 1920; D Christison 1891

The slight remains of an enclosure visible as a slight scarp on the N and E and a grass-covered core on the S and W. Measuring c.45.0m in diameter, the enclosure wall is drawn around the top of the slope on the E and round the foot of the hillock on the S to rise again slightly, to the west of a natural ditch-like hollow. The date and purpose of this enclosure cannot be ascertained.

Resurveyed at 1:2500.

Visited by OS (R D) 25 March 1972.
