(NX 6389 7916) Standing Stone of Dalarran (NR)

The Standing Stone of Dalarran is a whinstone slab, uninscribed, facing E-W and measuring 8'6 1/2" in height, the broad face 3'8" at the base and 2' at the top while the thickness is 11". One of the old lairds of Holm excavated around this stone, when he found an antique sword which was kept in his family until recently (Name Book 1849).
Mesolithic finds made in the immediate vicinity in 1971, at NX 639 792 while the field was ploughed up comprise over 100 pieces of flint and chert waste, including some blades and cores and two core scrapers, also a large scraper of Cumbrian stone. They are in the possession of Mr Ansell. (See also NX67NW 2)

There is only one standing stone at this site. It is situated in a pasture field and measures 2.4m by 1.0m wide and 0.3m thick. The ground at the base is slightly hollowed.
