(NX 8628 9314) Old Church (NAT) (Site of)

OS 6" map (1957)

The site of the old church of Keir which was perhaps in use till 1814 when the present church was built. The old church appears to have been too small to accommodate the congregation as it was customary for the sacrament to be administered in the open air at the place now called the "Priest's Hole" (name: NX 8620 9309). The church of Keir is mentioned c. 1225.

New Statistical Account (NSA) 1841 (W Menzies); Name Book 1855; J R H Greeves 1955

No trace of this church survives.
