'The Carlinwark', the remains of a large, stone, circular fort, lies on Craignarget Fell (Craignarget Hill: NX 26 52) on a level area on the slope down to the Gillespie Burn and a little further up than the old Manor House. The ruins of four old cottages are in the area. Traces are visible at the entrance on the SE where the two ends of the wall overlap, that on the east being on higher ground, and the foundation of that on the west being 6' thick with an ordinary wall above.

G Wilson 1899

There are no remains of a fort in this area. There is an apparent circular enclosure, visible on APs (RAF/106G/Scot/UK42: 4186-7), at NX 2602 5287 but nothing can be seen of it on the ground.
