NT81SW 20 8131 1366 to 8140 1365.

(NT 8131 1366 - NT 8140 1365) Earthwork (NR)

OS 6"map, (1962).

This linear earthwork runs up from just below the lip of Callaw Hope, at its head, on to the narrow, peaty neck that divides Callaw Hope from the headwaters of the Blind Burn. It runs straight for 70 yds from its lower end, but on reaching the surface of the neck describes a curve, 30 yds in length, with its convex side towards the N. It then disappears in a peat-hag before reaching the old road and the Border; no signs of it can be seen on the slope descending to the Blind Burn. It seems to have been concerned only with a strip of level and dry ground, suitable for the movement of traffic, lying between the peat-hag and the lip of Callaw Hope.

RCAHMS 1956, visited 1946.

As described above - a much reduced bank and ditch - the bank being about 3.0m broad and 0.6m high.

Visited by OS(JLD) 1 September 1960.

No change to previous information.

Visited by OS(BS) 1 September 1976.
