(NT 6358 6792) Cairn (NAT)

OS 6" map (1957)

There is a cairn, situated about 1100ft OD, one mile NE of Johnscleugh. Composed of stone, covered by about 6ins of peat, it measures 25ft in diameter and 1 1/2ft high.

RCAHMS 1924, visited 1914

There is no evidence of a cairn at the OS published siting, (this feature was probably a small marker cairn) or in the RCAHMS location area. However, at NT 6393 6697, just over 1/2 mile NE of Johnscleugh, is a probable cairn similar to that described. It is situated on a slight rise in undulating moorland and measures 9.5m in overall diameter and 0.6m high. Its heather-covered peat capping appears to be of considerable depth with no protruding stone. There is no obvious ditch.

Surveyed at 1/10,000.
