NT85SW 4 8003 5223.

(NT 8003 5223) A knoll 120 yards W by N of the farm steading "Cairnhill" shows a large number of stones in the soil, probably the remains of the cairn which gave the farm its name.

J H Craw 1923.

The field is under cultivation and the knoll is no longer apparent. There are however, a greater number of stones visible at this point than in other parts of the field.

Visited by OS(JFC) 30 December 1954.
