NT36NW 43.01 NT 32279 69748 Dovecot/Tower

(NT 3325 6973) Newton House dates from the late 17th century but has been considerably modernised. It appears to have been oblong on plan with a projection on the N side for a staircase, now represented by the upper part of the service stair. The basement is vaulted; the walling is of harled rubble.

East of the house and attached to it by a screen wall is a circular tower, apparently of 16th century date. The lower storey is vaulted and has a gun-loop opening to the S; the upper chamber is a dovecot, 9 3/4' in diameter within 3 1/2' thick walls.
