(NT 3366 6984) Dovecot (NAT)

OS 6" map (1968)

This rectangular dovecot, near Castlesteads House, measures 18' x 15' with 2'8" thick walls, which have been harled. There is a single string course. The entrance in the front wall has been widened for the use of carts, the lower part having been used as a shed. There are 525 nest holes. The roof is of lean-to type and about three-quarters of the way down is a boarding with about twenty entrance holes for the pigeons. The gables are without crowsteps.

The dovecot is mentioned in an advertisement of 1752.
