Clerkington Church originally consisted of a small nave and chancel. There are a number of 18th c gravestones around the site. "The church was granted to Newbattle Abbey in 1338, the charter being confirmed in 1359, but later it was given to the Collegiate Church of Corstorphine (H Scott 1950). The parish was united to Temple in 1618 (J C Carrick 1904).

RCAHMS 1929

The remains of Clerkington Church measuring about 17.0m E-W x 6.0m transversely, consist of grass covered lower courses of walling 0.6-0.7m high. The church lies within a disused burial ground visible as a raised platform enclosed by a turf covered wall.
