(NT 4606 7156) Gladsmuir Kirk (NR) (site of)

OS 6" map (1969)

Nothing remained of Gladsmuir parish church in 1853 except a small enclosure, within which human bones had been found some years before, on the N side of three cottages named Old Gladsmuir Kirk which stood immediately to the E of the site of the church (Name Book 1853).

The church was built soon after 1650, when Gladsmuir was first created a parish and was in use until 1695 when it became ruinous and was succeeded by the church described on NT47SE 1. Its walls were later incorporated into nearby cottages.

NSA 1845 (J Ramsay)

There is nothing visible at the published site, which falls within an arable field.

Visited by OS (BS) 15 October 1975

This church was built in 1660.

TSA 1953.
