NT27SE 1.29 2509 7361 to 2510 7362.

Castle Wall (NR) AD 1450 (NAT) (NT 2508 7360 - NT 2510 7363).

OS 25"map, (1953).

On the plan contained in this publication, this stretch of wall is anotated as 'Town Wall'.. (J S Richardson and M Wood 1948). It is 'Stated by Maitland to be part of the town wall, but it may be a relic of the castle defences, as from the nature of the ground here, the provision of a wall would seem somewhat unecessary....(RCAHMS 1951).

Visited by OS (JLD) 20 November 1953.

(NT 2509 7361 - NT 2510 7362) A stretch of rubble wall of no great strength which is disputed as being part of the Castle and also Town Wall. No positive evidence for either was encountered.

Visited by OS (JLD) 29 December 1953.
