NT28SE 297 824. The graves of many Russian seamen, who were buried on Inchkeith when a plague was on board their fleet in Leith Roads, were long visible.

In 1497, to prevent the spread of a contagious disease known as 'Grandgore' or 'French Pox', in Edinburgh people suffering from it were placed on Inchkeith. Again, in 1580, plague victims were on Inchkeith.
