NT32NE 11 c. 35 27.
1. Annan Street: There were formerly something like thirty cairns, on the moor around the standing stones, in one of which an iron spearhead was found. Articles of flint, bronze, and iron are found here (Miss Russell 1885).
At the eastern end of Warrior's Rest or Annan Field by the roadside is a cist 5 ft. 4 in. in length which appears to have been discovered about December 1882. (J Hardy 1885) (See also Selkirk 10 NE 1 where eight cists are dateable to the Early Bronze Age; 10 SE 1, legendary site of burials; and 10SE2 Celtic memorial stone with Latin inscription.)
2. "The group of cairns more than twenty is number, that formerly stood on the piece of ground known as Annan Street, to the W. of Yarrow Church, were probably of Dark Age rather than of Bronze Age date, although Bronze Age grave goods have been found in the same area." RCAHMS 1957
No traces of these cairns now exist within a tract of cultivated land.
Visited by OS (JLD) 6 June 1962.
