(NT 2681 7393) Abbey Pend (NR) (Site of).

OS 1:1250 map, (1946).

Gatehouse:- Remains of- Built in 1502 and demolished in 1753. Only part of the S side was left standing and has been incorporated in the modern Abbey Court-house which now covers part of the site. It was extended between 1647 and 1663.

The remains consist of 16/17th century work...(RCAHMS 1951).

Site of Abbey Pend (or Port - gate). Was a Gothic porch, erected in 1502 and destroyed in 1753.

Old wall on north side of Abbey Court-house may be remnant of Gate house or Pend as stated by OS field surveyor (JLD): but this was not ascertained.
