(NT 1118 7350) Dovecot (NAT)
OS 6" map (1909)
A short distance SE of Newliston House is a large rectangular dovecot with lean-to roof and crow-stepped gables. It measures 10.7m by 5.7m. Two rectangular doorways are situated in the S wall, and above each door, just above the string-course, is a small pointed arched opening. The structure is in a fair state of preservation, and it would apparently date from the late 17th or early 18th century. An estate plan of 1759, in the possession of Major Hog of Newliston, shows this dovecot. Major Hog requests that this dovecot is not treated as an antiquity on the OS map.
